With the desire to study abroad, I had to take the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam. I knew the Writing Section would be a cakewalk for me (considering my years of preparation for the section). However, I was skeptical about the IELTS Speaking section. Especially the IELTS Cue Card Test, for which I was given 1 minute to prepare before speaking for up to 2 minutes on the topic: Describe a creative person whose work you admire.

The zest to gain global exposure overpowered the jitters in my stomach. If you, just like me, want to ace the IELTS Speaking Section, then learn with me how to attempt this part.

IELTS Speaking Test Part 2: Cue Card

During the Cue Card part, a topic is given to you. After a minute of preparation, you must speak for 2 minutes, discussing the given theme without breaks or skipping topics. Sample topics range from describing an admired creative individual to recounting a moment of immense happiness.

Model Answer 1: Describe Creative Person You Admire

I enjoy watching movies from various genres and never miss an opportunity to enjoy them, no matter where I am. Therefore, the name Christopher Nolan is very familiar to me. He is one of Hollywood's most successful film directors and among the most talented and creative individuals today. I appreciate this chance to discuss such a creative person.

Christopher Jonathan James Nolan, commonly known as Christopher Nolan, was born in 1970. He is not only a director of some remarkable movies but is also highly reputed as a producer and has extraordinary screenwriting skills. Hollywood has entered into a new era with direct support from Nolan.

Christopher Nolan is not only creative; he is a genius. Most of his movies deal with some exceptional issues. Consequently, he won the hearts of the global population. He has been in his moviemaking career for over 30 years and has made many quality movies. The movies directed by Nolan are quite different from contemporary ideas.

When I was a teenager, I used to watch movies for entertainment. I was not mature enough to understand the movie plots or performances of the cast. One day, I watched a movie named "Memento," and it attracted me the most. Then, I started gathering information about the movie and finally learned about the movie director, Christopher Nolan. Until then, I was not interested in the movie makers or their plots. I just watched movies for entertainment and loved action movies. But gradually, the sense of appreciation grew in me. Then, I was charmed by this movie maker.

Model Answer 2: Describe Creative Person You Admire

Here is a model answer to describe a creative person whose work you admire:

Today, I would like to share about a prominent businesswoman of India, Kalpana Saroj, a true phoenix who rose from adversity.

I got acquainted with her when she visited my home in February 2019. My father knew her personally, so she came to our hometown to visit the famous ancient site and meet him. From her, I learned about her inspiring journey and the various obstacles she faced, from discrimination to the challenges of early marriage, before achieving success.

Kalpana Saroj was born into a Dalit family in Maharashtra. Her father, a constable, and she lived in the police quarter with her five siblings.
She encountered discrimination due to her caste, which is sadly practiced by upper-caste people who view lower-caste individuals as inferior and exploit them. Despite being a bright student, she faced mistreatment from her teachers, being segregated and restricted from participating in extracurricular activities.

Married off at 12, she moved to Mumbai with her in-laws, living in a slum and taking on household responsibilities akin to being an unpaid maid. This took a toll on her health, prompting her father to intervene.

Returning to her village, she faced scorn and decided to end her life due to societal taunts. Thankfully, she survived, and her outlook on life transformed. Returning to Mumbai with determination, she worked as a tailor and later ventured into real estate, successfully resolving a land dispute.

Recognizing her entrepreneurial skills, she was approached by workers of Kamani Groups, a company on the verge of bankruptcy. Her decision-making, management, and leadership skills revitalized the group, turning it into a thriving business.

Today, Kamani Groups is a leading brand in India, and Kalpana Saroj ranks among the wealthiest women in India, with assets exceeding $112 million.
