Describe A Time You Made A Promise To Someone IELTS Cue Card

Sample 1.

For Describe a time you made a Promise to Someone IELTS Cue Card below are 2 samples on how to answer them.

Introduction: They say that if you make a promise, you must keep it. And the fear of breaking promises has kept me from making them since I first realized their importance. But there have been times when I have made vows only to discover later that I have not kept them all! Today, for this topic, I'd like to discuss a promise I made to myself and then broke just a few weeks later.

When it was: It was 2018, and I had just finished my university studies and was looking for work. The transition from a relatively relaxed student life, the pressure to find work, my financial situation, and my large debt all put an invisible strain on my shoulder.

Who you made the promise to: So, one day, after losing my cool and becoming enraged for no apparent reason, and yelling at a taxi driver whom I thought was arguing unnecessarily, I realized something had changed in me that I did not expect or like at all. On that day, I promised myself that I would be more cautious and never let my temper get the best of me.

Why you made the promise and how you felt about it: I made this promise to myself because I dislike people who get angry for no apparent reason. I've always believed that such people could do better if they were wiser and less bitter. Naturally, I didn't want to be one of those people. I felt great when I made the promise. It felt like I was reinventing myself and erasing something negative from my life. But it was equally disappointing when I became angry with my younger sister a few weeks later, having forgotten my promise.

Sample 2.

Introduction: Breaking a promise can lead to disappointment and hurt feelings, so I made it a point to keep my promise to my brother. The experience reinforced the value of honesty and integrity in all aspects of life and taught me the importance of keeping promises.

When it was: I made this promise after my 12th board exams. The most memorable promise I ever made to someone was when I promised to take my younger brother to Disneyland. It had always been his dream to visit the theme park, and I wanted to make it a reality for him.

Who you made the promise to: I promised to take my younger brother to Disneyland during his summer vacation from school. When I made the promise, he was overjoyed, and I felt a strong obligation to keep my word.

Why you made the promise and how you felt about it: The promise was critical because it was important not only to my brother but also to me. I wanted to keep my word and fulfill my brother's dream. I knew that keeping my promise would strengthen my bond with my brother and create a lasting memory for both of us.
