Sul Ross State University is a public institution located in Alpine, Texas. Founded in 1917 as Sul Ross Normal College, it gained university status in 1969. Named after General Lawrence Sullivan Ross, a Civil War Confederate, it is accredited by the Southern Association of Schools and Commission on Colleges.
