On March 22, 1858, the Iowa Agricultural College and Model Farm was founded. The Morrill Act's provision, which was granted to the agricultural college in 1864, was approved by the Iowa Assembly in 1862. In 1872, the inaugural class—24 males and 2 women—graduated.
