OCAD University Canada was originally founded in 1876 by the Ontario Society of Arts. It was previously known as the Ontario School of Art. It was integrated as the Ontario College of Art in 1912, becoming the first Canadian school dedicated to educating professional artists in commercial and fine arts alike.
OCAD University had its name changed to the Ontario College of Art and Design in 1996, indicating the stellar growth of design-based programs.
