The main campus and north campus are the two distinct parts of the VSU campus. The majority of the administrative and academic departments are located on the main campus, which is renowned for the Spanish Mission architecture theme that permeates each structure. One of this city's main thoroughfares, North Patterson Street, is facing the 85-acre (34-hectare) Main Campus.

The Harley Langdale Jr. School of Business, Air Force ROTC Detachment 172, Billy Grant Field, home of the VSU baseball team, and the VSU Softball Complex are all located on the Rea and Lillian Steele North Campus, which is less than a mile, or around ten blocks, north of the VSU main campus.

Fall, Spring, and Summer admissions are accepted. Up to the Fall, Spring, and Summer quarters, first-year students were not required to have SAT or ACT scores. Through the official VSU Application Portal of the university, applications are accepted online. For undergraduate courses, deadlines are set. There are earlier deadlines for international students than for native students. Faculty-specified deadlines apply to graduate and doctoral courses. A 45 USD application fee is required.

The enrolled students have a 3.1 average GPA out of a possible 4.0. There are no GPA requirements for undergraduate courses, although the majority of graduate and doctorate courses demand a GPA of at least 3.0. International applicants must meet all eligibility requirements, including those for official transcripts, financial certifications, medical proofs, visas, and English language competency.

To ensure a seamless enrolment process at the institution, deadlines must be met. The deadlines for undergraduate admissions are set by VSU. Both domestic and foreign candidates have different deadlines.
