It’s NOT Too Late to Be a Leader in Digital Marketing

Just 10 years ago, the term digital marketing did not even exist! Today, with the growth of the internet, digital marketing is slowly taking over traditional marketing. There are multiple reasons this has happened, and it includes (1) Being able to reach target audiences in real time and more easily and; (2) Being more affordable.

  1. With data being collected so readily on sites such as Google and Facebook, businesses have been able to reach their target audiences with suitable marketing messages a lot more efficiently. Depending on industry and purpose, some of the fields that digital marketers use frequently include gender, age, interest and occupation.
  2. A simple email direct message (EDM) or social media campaign can allow businesses to spread their marketing messages at a fraction of what a television and print advertisement would cost and without busting the bank!

With this development, career opportunities in digital marketing have expanded exponentially with roles such as social media manager or digital marketing strategists easily falling into the top 10 in-demand jobs of most countries, especially in Asia. That said, given how recent digital marketing has evolved, most of the population above the age of 30 have not had any proper education in the field. And so, comes to the next question: “If I missed out on learning about digital marketing in school, how can I learn more about it and keep myself updated on the latest developments and how can I become a digital marketing leader today?”

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1How can digital marketing play a role in your career growth?

Digital marketing is quickly gaining ground as a means to enhance career growth since most businesses globally are inclined towards online promotions to advertise their brand, products and services to prospective customers. Other than this, mobile devices have become easily accessible making them the top choice for consumers to log into the internet.

So, whether you are looking for a specific product or service, or researching material and resources, the dominance of digital marketing is extremely evident. Unquestionably, that makes digital marketing a must-have skill for any individual who wants to quicken the pace of their career growth.

2 How can you become a digital marketing lead?

Whilst identifying the area of specialisation is a great start as it paves the way for career growth in the future, you must support this by highlighting your potential and capabilities to prospective employers too. The best way to move ahead in this approach is by creating your portfolio which will depend on the specialisation in digital marketing that you have selected to pursue.

Having a well-rounded collection of work is one aspect of it. The other part of the coin is to market it to the right people, meaning potential clients and employers. This helps demonstrate what skills you have learnt and how well you can apply them to get the desired results.

3How can you learn and share your digital skills during Covid-19?

With the raised anxiety levels during COVID-19, digital marketers have had the time to upgrade their skill sets too. Keeping a close eye on the trends is the key to launching successful campaigns online during these times of uncertainty.

Experienced marketers have opted to share their expertise across many domains and eager learners are absorbing this knowledge like a sponge.
