Top Business Analytics Course Specializations (Type of Business Analytics Course)

In this era, every business and organization needs Analytics to make business decisions, and strategies and to measure their performance.

Broadly speaking, there are four types of Analytics:
    • Descriptive Analytics (which showcases what has already happened)

    • Diagnostic Analytics ( which focuses on the current events and trends)

    • Predictive Analytics (which shows what might and could happen in future)

    • Prescriptive Analytics (what should happen ideally in future).

Analytics are usually implemented in stages and are interrelated with each other. Arguably, no one type of Analytics is better than the other. Each holds its individualistic importance and power.

Let’s delve deeper into the 4 different analytics.

    1. Descriptive Analytics

Descriptive Analytics is a field of specialization that requires Business Intelligence to understand what happened in the past with the help of existing data. It is a useful specialization to spot trends and patterns.

For instance: Annual Reports, Sales Reports, etc are the perfect examples that include Descriptive Analytics.

    descriptive analysis

    2. Diagnostic Analytics

This Analytics focuses on both the past as well as the current data to understand the factors that are influencing the trends. It answers the questions, such as what happened, how and why.

    3. Predictive Analytics

Predictive Analytics uses statistical techniques along with machine learning techniques to identify future outcomes. It assesses the future of a business or trends with the help of data accumulated till date.

For instance: Accounting firms are avid users of predictive analytics since it helps them detect discrepancies and frauds, while businesses use predictive analytics to predict future fads, and latest trends.

    4. Prescriptive Analytics

Prescriptive Analytics essentially deals with the recommendations/ suggestions side of things by analyzing the data. It tends to suggest all the favorable and prospective outcomes as per the specified course of action.

For instance, Google Maps uses Prescriptive Analytics to figure out the best possible route, both with the least traffic as well as the shortest distance. There are other technologies that go behind delivering you to your destination seamlessly, but Prescriptive Analytics is one of the most important concepts that go behind the functionality of Google Maps.
