In the previous segment, you learned how to create dashboards in Tableau. In this segment, you will be introduced to storytelling in Tableau. Stories are a great way to communicate your analysis to the recipient. Creating dashboards in Tableau is quite easy; it only requires dragging the sheets that you have already created. On the other hand, stories contain slides where you can add various sheets and dashboards. You can also annotate certain points or areas that you want to highlight. The article linked below will help you understand the basics of creating stories.
Instructions for creating stories in Tableau
In Tableau, a story is a sequence of visualizations that work together to convey information. You can create stories to present a data narrative, provide context, demonstrate how decisions relate to outcomes, or simply make a compelling case.
Since a story is a sheet, the methods that you use to create, name, and manage worksheets and dashboards can be applied to stories as well. At the same time, a story is also a collection of sheets that are arranged in a sequence. Each individual sheet in a story is called a story point.
In the video given below, Sean will walk you through one of the stories he has created.
As you saw, the story that Sean had created had a lot of animations and filters. A lot of functions used to create these stories are not covered in the module; they are too advanced concepts for an introductory session on Tableau. Let the stories created by Sean be a motivating factor for you to continue learning different tools and techniques available in Tableau and keep on creating amazing visualizations.
In the next segment, we will summarize your learnings from this session.
