Tableau is a quick and easy way to create powerful data visualizations.
In the forthcoming video, our faculty will answer the question of “What is Tableau?”.
So, as you heard from Sean, Tableau:
Is a database,
Is a business intelligence tool,
Graphical presentation software,
Can be used to monitor existing operations,
Can be used to discover new business opportunities, and
Is relatively non-technical.
These properties of Tableau make it a good fit for users who are not very adept at coding and want to visualize structured data.
There are multiple versions of Tableau available on its website. Some of these are paid versions, whereas others are free for use.
Tableau Desktop
This is a paid version of the software. It allows connections to various data sources.
Tableau Server
It is used to share vizzes and data sources across your organization’s secure network.
It allows you to work with live data or scheduled refreshes.
It allows users without Tableau installed to view and interact with vizzes.
Tableau Public
It is a free version of the software.
It allows you to save your work on the Tableau server.
In the next video, Sean will explain the features of Tableau Public.
So, as explained in the video, Tableau Public is:
Free software, similar to Tableau Corporate,
A public website where vizzes are saved,
Semi-private, and
Storage for your public portfolio.
So, till now, you have learned that Tableau is available in multiple versions and each version has its own uses. Now, in the next segment, we will compare Tableau to other data analytics tool.
