Informal conversations, same as in any other sphere of life, are inevitable in a professional workplace. Not all discussions at the workplace are related to work or performance. Healthy professional relationships are often built over informal conversations among colleagues.

While communicating with an acquaintance is definitely different as compared with communicating with a friend, it is important to maintain an even tone while making your point. In the next video, David will share some insights on effectively communicating in informal workplace discussions.

During informal discussions at the workplace, it is important to be both cordial and proud of your achievements and accomplishments. Hence, it is recommended that you ace the quality of ‘softened confidence’ while discussing such achievements.
 
Displaying ‘softened confidence’ does not necessarily mean that you have a set of phrases for each type of situation that you want to talk about. In the next video, David will explain some of the cliched statements that should be better avoided in such conversations.

Avoiding cliched statements such as ‘Break down the silos’ or sports references such as ‘Tee it up’ is imperative. Using such phrases may risk your chance of being properly understood by your recipient. You could also be considered unsympathetic and difficult to understand.
