The Lost Art of Slide Making in Presentation

Formal
Informal
$$/$$

Looking at these two images displayed above, which style of two do you think is likely to capture the attention of audiences and make an impact? Undoubtedly the first style.

Similarly, there are several dos and don’ts to making slides that seize the audience's attention.

These are key elements that you need to keep in mind while preparing slides to make them catchy and effective. In their absence, your slides will appear inadequate and fail to catch your audiences’ attention.

In this segment, Rakesh will walk you through all the hygiene factors that you must always keep in mind:

$$/$$

Rakesh has certainly put into perspective all the basic hygiene factors for you. You must remember them thoroughly. Now, let’s encapsulate what you learnt from this video:

  • Prepare your slides only after you have made your script. This will provide you with a framework around which you can build your slides.
  • While making slides, always remember these basic hygiene factors:
    • Do not forget to number each slide and write 'confidential information' in the footer.
  • You can choose your slide from three different types, depending on your audience and other factors such as follows:
    • A detailed and a text-heavy slide
    • A teleprompter with many bullet points
    • Visual presentation with many visuals
  • Never forget to follow these dos and don’ts:
    • Always run a spell check after preparing your slides.
    • Desist from making too many slides.
    • Prepare comprehensive slides that include all the important information.
    • Add infographic visuals and images to prepare catchy slides but maintain a good balance between text and visuals.
    • Try and use content and images from resources without copyright infringements.
    • If you take something from somewhere, specify the source clearly to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.
    • Avoid using vibrant colours and fonts.
  • As Rakesh mentioned, you can also prepare just one master slide that includes all the important information and animations that highlight the most important parts of the document. You can also send a detailed presentation via an e-mail.

In the next segment, you will be introduced to tools that you can use to make impressive slides. Rakesh will also discuss the benefits of slide making.
