Now that you have learnt about the first three elements of voice, in this segment, you will learn about the other three elements of voice, which are volume, pause and rate.

At the end of the video, you saw the salesperson implementing all the elements of voice, covered in this segment, to communicate effectively with the customer. He used a balanced mix of high pitch, low pitch, emphasis and pauses to get his message across. He also spoke at an appropriate rate and loud enough to be clearly heard by the listener.

 

You learnt about the following three elements of voice:

  1. Volume: The volume in which a person speaks refers to the degree of loudness of their voice. A person speaking in a low volume is probably shy or nervous. On the other hand, a person speaking loudly is considered to be confident.
  2. Pause: Making the right pauses while speaking helps people understand what you are trying to communicate. Pauses can also be divided into two types, silent and filled.
  3. Rate of speech: This refers to the number of words spoken per minute. If you speak at a very fast pace, customers are going to think that you are lying. On the other hand, if you speak too slowly, customer will lose interest and stop listening to you after a point.

 

Now that you have learnt about the various elements of voice, it is important that you apply your learnings and find the right mix of the various elements to ensure that you come off as assertive and confident.
